Located in the mountains of North Carolina near Blowing Rock, Kate Colclaser creates decorative and functional pottery and sculpture. Most of her work is hand built from slabs with extruded or thrown elements. Each piece is unique and much time is spent forming and texturing the pieces. Color is added through multiple layers of stain, terra siglatta or glaze. Pieces are fired multiple times to achieve the color and texture desired.
Much of the work involves nature and animals which are major influences. She loves the colors and forms of the natural world. Some pieces are rustic while others show great attention to fine detail. Kate has studied at the Penland School of Crafts and Arrowmont. Her work can be found at Doe Ridge Gallery in Boone, NC. For studio hours and upcoming shows contact Kate at 828-719-0466 or kcolclaser@gmail.com
The Mud on the Mountain Potters were featured at the Jone House on King Street in Boone during the month of March to provide a preview of the works that would be presented at the July 10th show.
